The conference had a great program of speakers, a large number of posters on display and plenty of opportunities to network.

This year, the IGGC committee introduced the Student Awards for best talk and best poster to encourage young talents in their research.

The nominees  for each award, who will receive a grant of US$ 1000 are:

History of the IGGC

The idea of an Inter Guiana Geological Conference was in 1949 first proposed by Hendricus (Henk) Schols, at that time head of the Geological and Mining Service of Suriname. He had graduated as a mining engineer from Delft University of Technology, and had passed the years of the Second World War in Suriname on secondment from a private organisation. After the war, he was asked by the governor of Suriname to set up the Geological and Mining Service. He organised the first Inter Guiana Geological conference in Paramaribo from September 23 to October 3, 1950, and the series continued up until the 10th IGGC in Belém, Brazil in 1975. The South American Exploration Initiative revived the conference series in Paramaribo, Suriname in 2019, and this current edition is thus the 12th IGGC.
