Professor David Prior

 

Professor David Prior’s substantial contributions to teaching and research in the field of

structural geology mean he is an outstanding candidate for the Henk Zwart award. He has

pioneered the application of electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) in Earth Sciences, and

trained or mentored its user community worldwide. He pushed the boundaries of EBSD

application through design and technological development of the world’s first EBSD

microscope specialised for untilted samples – the CamScan X500 Crystal Probe; and of

EBSD on ice. He also combines field and EBSD analyses in novel ways that have advanced

our fundamental understanding of (micro-)structural processes.
